ActronAir Leaking Water? Here’s What’s Likely Going On

Water dripping from an indoor unit, or pooling near the outdoor unit, is a common ActronAir complaint — and because water and electronics don’t mix, it’s worth understanding quickly. Air conditioners produce condensation as a normal part of cooling, so a small amount of water at the outdoor unit can be normal. Water where it shouldn’t be — dripping inside, or overflowing a tray — usually points to a drainage problem. Here are the common causes.

Common causes of an indoor water leak

  • A blocked condensate drain — the most common cause. The drain line carries condensation away; when it clogs with dust, mould or debris, water backs up and overflows the drain pan.

  • A full or cracked drain pan — if the pan that catches condensation is blocked, displaced, or cracked, it overflows.

  • A faulty condensate pump — systems that pump condensate uphill rely on a drain pump; if it fails, water isn’t cleared and overflows.

  • A frozen indoor coil that’s thawing — if the coil has iced up (often from low airflow or low refrigerant) and then melts, it can dump more water than the drain can handle.

  • A blocked filter — indirectly, restricted airflow can cause the coil to freeze and then overflow on thaw.

What you can safely check

  • Turn the system off to stop adding water while you investigate.

  • Check and clean the filter — it’s a common contributor and safe to do.

  • Look for an obviously full drain pan or a clearly blocked external drain outlet.

Beyond that — clearing a blocked drain line properly, replacing a drain pump, or diagnosing a frozen coil — is work for a technician, who can clear the line, test the pump, and find out why the coil iced up in the first place.
