ActronAir Sensors & Switches: A Practical Guide

Sensors and switches are the nervous system of your ActronAir unit. Temperature sensors tell the control board how hot or cold things are; pressure switches and transducers watch the refrigerant circuit and shut the system down safely if pressures go out of range. When one fails or reads incorrectly, the system often throws a fault code and may refuse to run — which is actually helpful, because the code usually points straight to the part. This guide explains the main types and how to get the right genuine replacement.
The Main Types ActronAir Uses
-
Temperature sensors — room/return-air (T1), indoor coil (T2), outdoor ambient (T4), outdoor coil (T3), and compressor discharge (T5/TP). Each is a specific length and connector.
-
Pressure switches — high-pressure and low-pressure switches that trip to protect the system. These are refrigerant-specific (for example R22 800L/12S versus R410A 1000L/13S).
-
Pressure sensors / transducers — on inverter and commercial systems, these give the board a live pressure reading (high and low), often colour- and connector-coded.
-
Defrost and discharge sensors — specific sensors that manage the defrost cycle and protect the compressor.
How Sensors & Switches Link to Fault Codes
This is the useful part: most sensor and pressure faults show a specific code. A sensor reading open or short circuit typically shows an E-code (for example E3 room sensor, E4 indoor coil, E7 outdoor coil, or F1–F3 on older systems); a pressure switch tripping shows E9 (low pressure) or E11 (high pressure). If your system is showing a code, note it — it tells us almost exactly which sensor or switch is involved. See our guide to ActronAir fault codes.
Getting the Right Genuine Sensor or Switch
Sensors and switches are matched by their role (which temperature or pressure they read), their resistance curve or pressure rating, the refrigerant, the cable length, and the connector type (the JST plugs differ by pin count and colour). A close-but-wrong part can read incorrectly and cause more faults. Tell us your model number and the fault code (or send a photo of the existing part and its connector), and we’ll confirm the right genuine sensor or switch.
