ActronAir Won’t Turn On? Start Here

A system that won’t start — or a wall controller that’s gone blank — can feel like a major failure, but it’s often something straightforward. A blank controller doesn’t necessarily mean the controller is dead; it can simply mean it’s lost power from elsewhere in the system. Here’s how to think about it, from the simple checks anyone can do to the internal causes a technician will investigate.

Safe checks first

  • Power — check the system hasn’t tripped a circuit breaker or an isolator switch at the switchboard or near the unit. Reset a tripped breaker once; if it trips again, stop and call a technician.

  • The controller — if the screen is blank, check it hasn’t simply been switched off or scheduled off. On battery-powered zone controllers, flat batteries can cause issues.

  • Power interruption — after a blackout or storm, a single power cycle at the switchboard can restore a system that didn’t restart cleanly.

If none of that brings it back, the cause is likely internal.

Common internal causes (for a licensed technician)

  • A control-board fault — if the main board has failed, the system and its controller can appear completely dead.

  • A power-supply or wiring fault — a blown fuse on the board, or a wiring fault, can cut power to the controller.

  • A failed capacitor — the system may have power and try to start, but a failed capacitor can stop the compressor or fan running.

  • A faulty controller — less common than people assume, but the wall controller itself can fail.

  • A communication fault — a comms error between the controller and the unit can leave the controller unresponsive (often shown as an E51/E52 code if the screen is alive).

Because a blank, dead system can be caused by anything from a tripped breaker to a failed board, a technician will work methodically from the power supply inwards rather than replacing parts on a guess.

If there’s a fault code

If the controller is alive enough to show a code, note it — it points straight to the area at fault. Our guide to ActronAir fault codes explains what the common ones mean. ActronAir advises that if a fault persists, turn the unit off and contact ActronAir Service on 1800 119 229 with your model number.
